On April 28, 2026, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute welcomed a truly special guest — Mr. Wang Guangqi, a former student of the Faculty of Heat Power Engineering who began his studies at our university back in 1955.
This visit was a moving event that bridged the past and present of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic. The distinguished guest was welcomed by Andriy Shysholin, Vice-Rector for International Relations; Iryna Prykhodko, Director of the Center for International Education; and the current generation of Chinese students studying at our university today.
Mr. Wang Guangqi shared warm memories of his student years from the middle of the last century. He noted that despite the passing decades and thousands of kilometers, KPI has always remained in his heart. It was a deep sense of gratitude to his alma mater and a desire to see the familiar campus buildings once again that brought him back to Kyiv after all these years.
During a campus tour, the guest was impressed by how the university preserves its majestic architectural heritage while rapidly developing modern infrastructure.
A friendly meeting was held at the Center for International Education (CIE), where Mr. Guangqi had the opportunity to talk with current students from China. For the youth, this visit served as a living example of how strong the bonds formed within university walls can be.
In turn, administration representatives updated the veteran of the Faculty of Heat Power Engineering on the university’s modern development — specifically its transformation into a world-class research university, its international recognition, and innovations regarding new educational programs and opportunities for international students.
“KPI is not just a university; it is a part of my life. I am happy to see how it grows and looks confidently into the future, preserving the soul I remember from my youth,” said Mr. Wang Guangqi.
This visit once again proved that for true friendship and the academic community, neither borders nor time exist. Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is always open to its alumni, no matter where in the world they may be.
